HopeWorks’ Survivors Speakers Bureau

“And then our speaking out

will permit other women [people] to speak,

until laws are changed

and lives are saved

and the world is altered forever.”

– Audre Lorde

“I wish I knew.”

Words of regret very often said in response to learning of abuse.

  • 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have been victims of [some form of] physical violence by an intimate partner within their lifetime.
  • 1 in 15 children are exposed to intimate partner violence each year, and 90% of these children are eyewitnesses to this violence
  • 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 20 boys is a victim of child sexual abuse
  • 72% of all murder-suicides involve an intimate partner; 94% of the victims of these murder-suicides are female.
  • 1 in 5 women in the United States have been raped in their lifetime.

Chances are someone YOU know is experiencing sexual, domestic, or dating violence.

HopeWorks’ Survivors Speakers Bureau presents the varied voices and real-life experiences of those who have survived sexual, domestic and dating violence.

Members of our Speakers Bureau are telling their truth, giving voice to the pain and suffering, as well as to the strength, resilience, and recovery that many survivors experience.

Invite us to speak at your church, school, or social/community groups. Together we can change the conversation.

For details on how to schedule a speaker for your event please call the Community Engagement Department at (410) 997 – 0304.
